We are incredibly proud of Ané Pretorius, who represented South Africa and Hoërskool Ben Viljoen at the Great Britain Junior International Championship, held from 17 to 20 August 2026 at the NSRA Bisley Lord Roberts Centre in the United Kingdom.
A total of 23 marksmen from across South Africa represented various South African schools at this prestigious international competition. The championship had 223 entries from 24 international clubs and schools, with participants from countries including India, Scotland, Wales and Great Britain. Marksmen competed not only as individuals, but also as part of teams.
The competition kicked off on Monday with the Target Sprint, where participants run 100 metres before shooting five shots. This cycle is repeated four times. Ané and her two teammates performed exceptionally well, finishing 6th out of 11 teams with a time of 25 minutes 35 seconds. Individually, Ané finished 14th out of 20 ladies with a time of 9 minutes 51 seconds.
From Tuesday, 49 marksmen competed in the Sporter class. The morning’s competition consisted of 3-position shooting – kneeling, prone and standing. Ané achieved an impressive 543 out of 600. Together with her two teammates, they achieved an excellent 1112 out of 1200, earning them the gold medal for overall first place.
On Wednesday, the marksmen competed in the 10m section, consisting of two standing cards. Ané scored 341 out of 400 and, together with her teammate, progressed to the Top 8 shoot-off. They finished an impressive 4th overall, with a score of 339 out of 400.
The competition continued on Thursday with another 10m section, where Ané scored 335 out of 400. She concluded the championship with an impressive overall score of 1219 out of 1400.
